Anne Bonny and Mary Read

Dublin Core

Title

Anne Bonny and Mary Read

Subject

Anne and Mary were female pirates who disguised themselves as men when they were pirates. They would be part of Calico Jack's crew before their quick exits from the pirating world.

Description

Mary was English and Anne was Irish, they were both born to working families, and had similar upbringings. Both were accustomed to dressing like boys so they had no problem breaking into the pirate scene. They were as good at fighting, drinking, and cursing as any of the male pirates. Despite their quick exit from the pirate life, their legacy lived on, inspiring waves of female pirates in years to come, and marking their place in history as the two most famous female pirates. They would be put to execution but Mary would die from a terrible fever in her cell, while Anne mysteriously disappeared.
