Description

The various colonial empires in the Americas had currencies they either brought from Europe, or developed as the colonies progressed. Currencies such as the Spanish dollar pictured were accepted across the Americas and the widespread use of them helped facilitate trade between parties. The standardization of coins such as the Spanish dollar heavily influenced later independent American nations and their currencies. With the development of international trade across sea routes these currencies helped facilitate the transfer of goods.
